Food Service Director

First Baptist Ellijay is seeking a Food Service Director.  This is a full time position.
The Food Service Director is responsible for the supervision of all food service activities and the general overseeing of the kitchen and Weekday Education lunch room.
  • Supervise the use of the kitchen and Weekday Education lunch room
  • Plan menus and supervise the preparation of Wednesday Family Night meals (approximately 150)
  • During summer months, when there is no Wednesday evening meal, time normally used for that will be dedicated to major cleaning of kitchen, equipment, and utensils
  • Plan each Wednesday Family Night meal and shop/order food and supplies
  • Purchase food and supplies, and designate items that are to be allocated to specific ministries
  • Provide the count of children’s meals prepared and served for Weekday program at end of each month
  • Establish and implement policies and procedures regarding area of responsibility
  • Supervise Food Services Assistant
  • Determine needed kitchen maintenance and request help through the Building Services Director
  • Maintain accurate records on cost and operation of kitchen – make monthly reports
  • Check in food deliveries, affirm invoices, send invoices to Office Manager
  • Coordinate special functions as requested
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness in kitchen and Weekday Education lunch room before and after meals
State Food Program
Work with Director of Weekday Education menu to ensure compliance with all regulations and policies for the State program


Skills & Knowledge
  • Know how to cook for large crowds
  • Ability to schedule both the events and the food and supplies necessary
  • Familiar with all types of kitchen equipment
  • Able to maintain accurate records including billings, checking in supplies, and general operational statistics
  • High School graduate preferred
  • Previous cooking and meal planning experience required
  • Serve Safe Certification a plus
Physical/mental demands
  • Physically demanding – on feet for most of assignment
  • Bending over in using ovens
  • Lift heavy boxes that contain food and supplies
  • Ability to transport heavy items such as multiple gallon milk containers
  • Ability to clean kitchen area
Working conditions
  • Work under pressure to meet deadlines for meals
  • Serving meals to small children on a daily basis
